Stephen E. Mawdsley, PhD

I am a social historian of twentieth-century American medicine. My research has explored African American health activism, societal perceptions of vaccination, and the development of health charities. In 2012, after earning degrees at the University of Alberta and the University of Cambridge, I became the Isaac Newton–Ann Johnston Research Fellow at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge. I took up a Wellcome Trust University Award at the University of Strathclyde in 2016 and I am presently Lecturer in Modern American History at the University of Bristol.
